Even the best plate armour is useless if the wearer can not move in it. Oftentimes you have to find a compromise between padding and freedom of movement. The late medieval "Tudor" jerkin was specifically designed to be worn underneath a steel torso armour. In this way, "Tudor" protects the wearer from pressure marks and the impact of an opponent's blows without limiting the mobility.
