Die britische Armee, die weithin als die beste Kampftruppe gilt, die je unter der Unionsflagge gekämpft hat, musste zwar Niederlagen einstecken, konnte aber weitaus häufiger einen weiteren Sieg über ihren alten Feind, die Franzosen, verbuchen. Unter der Führung großer Kommandeure wie Moore, Crauford und Wellesley war die britische Armee eine gut ausgebildete und im Großen und Ganzen disziplinierte Truppe, die von 1808 bis zum Ende des Feldzugs 1814 auf der iberischen Halbinsel im Einsatz war. Die britischen Fußregimenter mit rotem Anstrich wurden von ihren portugiesischen, spanischen und deutschen Verbündeten sowie von ihren Landsleuten in der Kavallerie und Artillerie unterstützt. Diese multinationale Truppe fügte Bonapartes Franzosen eine Niederlage nach der anderen zu und brachte Schlachten wie Vitoria, Salamanca, Talavera und die brutale Belagerung von Badajoz in die britische Militärlegende ein.
